No. GunStatus is an independent app and is not affiliated with SAPS or any government department. For official decisions and deadlines, always confirm with SAPS or your DFO.

With Premium (or an active trial, where applicable), you can enable monitoring for saved applications. Monitoring is best-effort: it depends on iOS or Android background rules, network availability, SAPS uptime, and the push notification service (Apple Push Notification service or Firebase Cloud Messaging). It may involve coordination between your device and our backend — see the Privacy Policy for what is stored server-side. Always verify critical updates on official SAPS channels.

Add your licence dates under My Firearms and GunStatus sends renewal reminders at 7 and 6 months before expiry, so you never miss a deadline. Renewal reminders are based on the dates you enter, so always double-check them against your licence.

Most data, including your firearm details and shooting log, stays on your device and may be backed up to your own iCloud (iPhone) or Google account (Android) when backup is enabled. Only a limited set of monitoring-related fields is stored on our secure backend, and no names, addresses or contact details are stored server-side.

Where available, new users may get a 7-day trial with Premium features: automatic background monitoring (where available), push notifications for status changes, renewal reminders (based on dates you enter), unlimited firearms in the app, higher limits on the shooting log (sessions, photos, PDF export), and the full iCloud experience we market for Premium. Trial eligibility and billing presentation follow Apple’s App Store rules in your region (or Google Play’s on Android). Application history still uses the app’s normal rolling local list (see Terms).
